Ever wonder why your period blood looks different?  Here is a breakdown of what the colors mean.

Red.  This is your typical, normal period blood.  It also means your flow is healthy.

Deep Red.  This can signify old blood and can come at the beginning or end of your period.

Pink.  This might happen during ovulation and it means there is a mix of blood and cervical mucus.   This also can commonly happen if you are on the pill.

Brown.  This means oxidized blood, or old blood.  If you flow is light this is commonly what you will see.  Is it normal?  Can be…but if this color is the only part of your flow I’d recommend checking in with your doctor for some testing.

Black.  Another sign of old blood and that it’s taken longer to exit the uterus.  It might also mean miscarriage or infection so make sure to speak to your doctor.

Have you experienced any of these or any other colors of blood?
